The Men in the Yellow Hats

Early Thursday morning we noticed water bubbling out of the sidewalk directly in front of our house.
It was a lot of water--and as it turns out, the water main broke and was quickly eroding the foundation underneath our street, sidewalk and driveway.
When the crew showed up, the driveway bounced like a diving board in the last 4 feet or so. And the bubbling hole in the street was deep enough to swallow their shovel.

We had front row seats to a parade of trucks and tractors showing up throughout the day--and David was hanging out the window watching them. It was a very exciting show!
Right about lunchtime, one of the workers handed David this "hard" hat and said, "Here! Now you can be like us!" You can see that David was thrilled at this.
He put the hat on then requested that I go get his sunglasses from the car so he could be "just like the workers!"

That is a happy little boy -- it doesn't get better than that. And, hooray for nice and thoughtful construction workers. . . they remembered what it was like to be a little boy :)
