Home

We're in to our new home.
All of our things are here, and we're kind of unpacking.

I was so pleased with myself that I packed overnight bags with enough clothes and toiletries to get us through two days. That way we wouldn't have the same panic as our previous move out of Norm Drive when we woke up Sunday morning and couldn't find any of the Sunday morning essentials.

It worked! We could shower and dress without a single hitch. Then David asked for breakfast. It took 1 1/2 hours to find a spoon to eat his cereal. Next time I'll pack a food box as well as our overnight bags.

Some sisters came over, and we used two years' worth of Magic Erasers just to clean the kitchen. And once the shelves were lined with paper, I felt a huge burden lifted because I could move in to my kitchen.
We have a few projects to finish--namely, finishing a hardwood floor and laying carpet--before we move in to our main floor. But we're home.

This is our fourth home in four months, and we are ready to feel settled into a permanent space.

The wild card with this home was that we weren't allowed to turn on the water before we took ownership. So while the foreclosure looked very promising, that's still kind of a big wild card. We ended up calling a plumber in to look at a suspciously behaving toilet, and he pulled out a full size pencil and a long comb  (left by the previous owner). Sam patiently worked with  another toilet that was leaking from the tank, and now we have 3 fully functioning bathrooms! Now about the hot water that fills our toilets--we'll fix the regulator valve sometime soon, but for now we're grateful that everything works.

The race is on to get the home ready for our final adoption inspection before we go pick up our baby girl in MN. The thought of wanting to bring a newborn home to everything set up keeps me at the projects. Like pulling carpet staples out of the subfloor until 11 pm, hours after exhaustion sets in. My knees hurt, my back hurt, and my fingers were shredded from grabbing at the pokey staples in dim light. Or pulling the dryer out at the end of a long day to reattach the vent pipe. We want baby girl to come in to a home, so we keep on keepin' on.

Pink

In celebration of our baby girl, Daddy did something he's never done before.

He bought a pink tie.

I think this baby girl needs to know that she had her Daddy wrapped around her pinky when her pinky was just a few centimeters long.

It's a GIRL!!!

Isn't she wonderful!?!

Yesterday morning, just before Sam left for work we received a phone call from LW.

"I'm here with the ultra sound tech. Are you ready to find out what you're having?"

So we all learned that it's a SHE.

And we heard the her heartbeat.

It was absolutely thrilling to be part of that moment.
Of course we couldn't be more excited to start thinking all things pink at our house.

David is excited to have a baby sister coming. He wanted to email his Grandpa about it yesterday (He likes to "email" his grandparents--which consists of him just pushing random keys on the keyboard.) Here's his message, and my note afterwards.

Translation:

Dear Grandpa,

I am getting a  baby sister.

Love, David

(I highlighted where he sounded out baby--that's his first attempt to write a word, and I love it that we captured it!)

I just want to shout hooray all day long!!!

The last month has flown by for me because of all that we have had to do, so I'm hoping that the next few months will do the same.

Thanks to Aunt Tanya for help in adding the bling, the bow, and the pink to our wee one!

No Joke

Even though the call came on April Fool's Day--it's becoming more real with each passing day.

Where? In Minnesota
When? Around September 18
What? We don't know yet. (boy or girl)

Why? We've been selected by a birthmother again for placement!

We are over the moon excited.

David told us that if it's a boy, we should name him David.
And if it's a girl we should name her, well, David.

We'll keep you posted as we learn more details.

The game is on to get into another house and settled well before we bring home a new baby.

We got to skype with the birth mom (LW) today, and she is such a dear girl! Oh, how we have enjoyed getting to know LW. We've been emailing her for the last 10 weeks or so, and we have been so impressed with the depth of conviction she has. And we are so thrilled that she chose our family for the baby she is choosing to place. She was close to the spirit in her decision, and that's exactly what we hope for in a birth mother.

Here are LW's words in describing how she chose our family--I thought this was so precious, and with her permission, I am sharing it.

I want you to know that I have never felt like this was my baby. It's always been yours. From the moment I saw your picture I felt that; it just felt too early to really make that choice.

This week I found myself back on your blog reading some old posts you wrote. I don't remember which blog it was, but I felt the spirit witness so strongly to me that the Lord had heard David's prayers specifically, and is answering them. I could feel how much David is loved by the Lord, and this baby is supposed to be David's little brother or sister. I know he will make a great big brother.

Miracles are happening in our family, and our hearts are full of gratitude.
