The chilly temps are in full swing at our house--when we got out of the car this evening, it was registering at 3 degrees, which was 8 degrees colder than the church, where we had just left. Last night there was a difference of 14 degrees between a parking lot 3 miles south of here and our driveway. We are in a cold pocket of a chilly town!
But before it got really cold--when the temps were bouncing between the 40's and the 20's for a few weeks, David was determined to keep his creek ice free.
He would bundle up (at my insistence) and go work on the creek.
Using long sticks to break away the ice, lots of tap tap tapping up and down the creek.
He has since figured out that the creek is frozen a little more solid--he tried to pry a broom out of the ice, and it broke in two. (David is resourceful and uses as many outdoor tools as he can to work on his creek.)
The good thing is that in about 5 months, when things begin to thaw--that creek will re-emerge for a little boy. And it will be like it's new for the first time again. He's going to love it when the spring time wakes up the creek.
