We're still adjusting to the four hour time difference, sorting luggage from the laundry, and trying to decide if we prefer the 99 degrees with 100% humidity that we left behind or the 54 degrees with cloudy skies that greeted us. Let it be said that we just returned home from a wonderful trip to visit family. We visited eight different states in twelve days, and saw about 30 members of our extended family in our visits. It was a truly memorable trip!
For starters, this little traveler was a real champ! He was so excited to be part of the airport and airplane experience. He was insistent on being the one to lug around our rolling carry-on. There were a few times when I saw him get distracted by something shiny or tired of pulling it, so he dropped the handle and kept walking. Yikes! I'm glad that it made it all the way to our gate.
But when we went to retrieve it, he insisted on pulling it again.
His parents hardly caught a wink of sleep through our red-eye, but David knew how to catch up on a few Z's here and there.
Here's a funny story. We had a layover that was too short to leave the terminal through security to meet up with family at the airport--but we knew it would be especially nice to visit with family if we could. So my Dad bought three fully refundable tickets for him, my mom, and my sister--which allowed them to come through security to meet us for breakfast. While we ate, Dad called the airline to get his refund, and it worked like a charm.
So our first visit was with Grammy and Grampa and Aunt Shayla.
David was in grandparent heaven.
He even let go of the luggage long enough to hold the hands of both of his grandparents.
Thanks, Dad, for making the arrangements to meet up in the terminal. It was just like the good ol' days to have someone waiting to greet us as we walked off the plane. As a side note, I still think that the more people who know about this, the faster it will become illegal--but for our purposes, it worked like a charm.
We reached our final destination in Philadelphia at 5 pm, picked up our rental car, had dinner en route while we got 3 hours of travel under way and finally hit the sack at midnight Eastern Time. While it was only 8 pm according to our biological clocks, we were plenty tired from the all-nighter we pulled on the plane the night before. The next morning we awoke at 8:15, I got a few laps in at the pool (which was the best way to work out the soreness and tension of heavy luggage from the previous day!) and we barely made it to the continental breakfast which ended at 9:30 then we got on the road to New Hampshire where we would visit Sam's Grandma Allen and David's Great Nana in her home.
Total travel time Tuesday and Wednesday: 12 hours in airplanes and airports; 11 hours in the car
