Drum Roll Please . . .

This first picture is after the powerwash was complete, so a lot more paint chipped off than what it originally was. We were impressed at the amount of bare wood that showed up after the power wash. Our 27 year old home only had 2 other coats of paint on it. With these harsh winters, the standard for keeping up your home's paint is every 5 years. So this should have been coat 5 or 6. Needless to say, it was very thirsty wood. We really tossed around the idea of putting on primer first. In the end, we were so glad that we made that extra effort.

As a side note, this has been an incredibly rainy summer. If it rains tomorrow, it will tie as the rainiest on record--a previously held record by the summer of 1951. We feel blessed that the weather worked perfectly for our schedule. Sam often worked in a light drizzle with all the prep work. Once we were ready to pull out the paint, the weather was the best behaved it had been all summer. We were winded out a few times and rained out a couple of times . . . but all in all, it was a well-paced project. And we truly felt blessed in our efforts. Ironically, the constant rain for the last few weeks has prevented us from our last task at hand--hang rain gutters.
