Blessing Day

On Sunday, September 6, 2009 Sam had the opportunity to give David a name and a blessing. We do not baptize infants in our church--we wait until they are 8 years old, to make their own choice--but they can be blessed in front of a congregation and receive the name they will have throughout their life. Most often, it is the father that pronounces this name and blessing, and he typically invites a few others to join him.

Sam did a beautiful job, and David looked sweet in his white outfit. In an effort to keep him occupied (since usually this is done when a baby is a month old, not seven months old) we gave David his bottle right as Sam took him up to the front of the congregation. Apparently our aspiring electrician was not too interested in the bottle once he was within reach of the microphone and the cord. Sam was the only one in the blessing circle with his eyes closed, because the other participants had full reports of how they managed to keep David from yanking the microphone away or chewing on the cord. The Bishop commented that David was the heaviest baby he ever helped to bless.

We happen to think he is also the sweetest.
